Uzon Caldera also one more unique sight of Kronotsky Reserv. It is a big hollow with the demensions 9x12 km., and total area 150 sq.km., formed on the remains of the ruined volcano about 40,000 years ago.
Early in the morning, when the air is still cool the astounding panoramic sight of the yellow fumarole fields with hundreds of steam columns rising over them, the green groves, the brownish tundra, and the bluish lakes can be seen from the height of the mountains surrounding the caldera from the West and from the North. The highest point of them is Peak Barany. Kamchatka's aboriginal people called this area "streaming lands".
Below at every step you can be caught by amazing sounds - everything is squelching, smacking, whistling, and puffing. It seems that the energy of the earth is coming out into the surface directly from under the feet.
Hydro-thermal activity is concentrated on the five thermal sites in the South-western part of caldera. It manifests itself in numerous boiling and setting craters, countless mud cauldrons and small volcanoes, steaming or warmed sites with the gushes of steam or hot water. There are about 100 springs and more than 500 single hydrothermal appearances practically of all types of Kamchatka's waters. The biggest, and in the same time the coldest shallowest among the lakes of caldera is Centralnoye. Lake Fumarolnoye is warm: it is never covered with ice, Lake Bannoye with the temperature 400C above zero even in winter, has the false bottom: the crust is formed by melted sulphur beach in the depth. The warmth of the ground attracts animals and birds.
