Kurilskoe Lake and Kutkha Boats - If you choose a hiking trail, the path will bring you to the bright apricot cliffs. These cliffs come out of the deep green of the forest. Divided by a canyon, sharp vertical columns, a couple of dozen meters in height, look like the verticla boats of the native people of Kamchatka. According to tradition, this was home to the northern people's god, Kutkha, who left his boats on Kurilskoye Lake.
Kurilskoye Lake is protected not only by Kutkh's boats. On one side there is the tall cone of the Ilyinskaya volcano, and, on the other side, the Diky Greben volcano. Whimsical capes generously decorate the banks of the lake. This lake was created by a volcano and is the third largest in size in Kamchatka - 9 x 11 km. It is made even more picturesque by the multiple islands that are home to many bird rookeries: a pink stony island, the Heart of Aloid, Bolshoi and Maly, Nizky and Samang archipelego.
This lake is popular with beautiful swans and large bears, but it mostly famous for being one of the largest spawning grounds for red salmon. In winter, the lake is even more exotic. Usually it does not freeze and the spawning of salmon continues until March. At that time hundreds of large carnivorous bird come here: up to 500 bald eagles, 100-150 while-tailed eagles, and sometimes as many as 50 golden eagles. Even swans, vegetarians by nature, like to eat salmon eggs. The ecosystem of Kurilskoye is unique.
