The middle part of Kamchatka, from the south to north, is crossed by an ancient volcanic chain called Seredinny Ridge. This ridge includes over 120 extinguished volcanoes and over 1,000 dross and lava cones that witnessed the former activity of the now extinguished "builders of the earth". In addition to this fact about Seredinny Ridge, its exotic slopes and breaks, together with the forests and bushes, look fantastic. The central part of it is the Bystrinsky Region. Almost all of its territory (1.4 million hectares) is preserve. On the peninsula they call this region "Kamchatka's Switzerland". Protected from the winds, with dry climate and multiple therapeutic springs, the Bystrunsky region was created by nature to be just like a health resort. For now Bystrinsky region is a wonderful place for the relaxation of active tourists who will find many hiking and horse trails here. The administrative center of the region is settlement Esso which in the language of the native people means "large". This is very accurate name. Thai settlement , one of the coziest in Kamchatka, is surrounded by evergreen forests, sculptured cliffs, and ridges. Esso is heated by thermal waters. Thermal sources also heat greenhouses, where even southern vegetables have been grown. In the center of the settlement there is a large swimming pool. In the hotel, also, you can have a thermal bath at any time.

Bystrinsky is a national region. The native population is made up of Evens. You can learn about their original traditions in the Museum of Local Lore and in the concerts of their folklore group. Of course you can vary the routes. Horse and hiking trails will bring you to the north from Esso. Many will probably want to see Eens raising caribou in the Anavgai settlement. Somebody probably will want to ski in the mountain after swimming in the thermal pools. Esso has great opportunities for that, too. Make you choice. In any case you will return home with the feeling that the world is beautiful. It's best to pal summer vocations for the period from July to the middle of September. March and April are the best months for winter relaxation, during this time it is sunny and snowy. After landing in Elizovo airport you will be offere a short break in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (22 km) or Elizovo. Then you can make a choice: to travel by car on by plane. Road travel in Kamchatka is full of unforgettable impressions, but some might find that tiring.

Ichinskaya Volcano - is the main object of interest in the region which is unfortunately is available only for the experienced mountain climber. Its height is 3,607 m. This is the only active volcano of the Seredinny Ridge which lives and breathes among its extinguished brothers. It has grown for a long time. This volcano is decorated with multiple cones, domes, and lava streams. Next to the volcano you can find blue obsidian (volcanic glass) which you have probably only previously seen in expensive jewelry. The trail to the volcano is well-traveled by caribou herds and tourists. It is easy to climb up there to see the view. It is even easier to fly around it. You don't need to fear for your life, this volcano hasn't erupted in historic times.
