Elizovo

The Elizovsky region makes up the southeastern part of Kamchatka. There are 25 settlements in this region. The largest of these is the regional center Elizovo City. 6.8 thousand sq.km of the region are covered by forests. In the forests residents collect birch sap, dry ferns, ramson, and other berries. The future direction of the economic development of the region will be in the development of rich bioresources of the shelf and the economic use of mineral resources. The central Kamchatka airport is located in Elizovo. In 1995 the airport received the status of an international airport. It's a tradition in Russia to meet guests with bread and salt. From here you can get by car to the Paratunka valley, to the Mutnovsky volcano, and to the Okhotsk coast of Kamchatka. Highways open access to the attractive nature and what is especially important allow reduced transportation expenses for the organization of visitor tours.
Elizovsky region is one of the largest farming regions in the area with developed cattle breeding and vegetable farming. In addition Elizovo city is surrounded by the largest communities of summer houses in the Avacha River valley - a phenomena of recent years. Most of population of Elizovo and Petropavlovsk come here on weekends.
The climate in most parts of Elizovsky region is maritime and humid and is mainly formed under the influence of active cyclones off the Kamchatka coasts. The difference in weather is often felt even when travelling from Petropavlovsk to Elizovo. In winter there is seldom cloudy weather and only weak winds. The depth of the snow reaches 1 meter. Summer continues from the middle of June to the middle of September with an average temperature of 13-15 C.
The natural surroundings of the Elizovsky Region are typical of the peninsula. The region's relief is mainly mountains and volcanoes. 20 of 29 active volcanoes are located in the city. They are a natural decoration that makes the city especially exotic. Their peaks are almost always covered with snow - and this is the first thing that draws the attention of passengers from airplanes landing in Elizovo. Almost everywhere you'll see the remains of recent or former volcanic eruptions. Modern volcanic creations differ, but all are impressive with their graceful forms. The tallest volcano in the Elizovsky region is Kronotskaya volcano (3,528 m). The volcanoes Koryakskaya and Avachinskaya, located close to Elizovo and Petropavlovsk, are called domestic. They are easily accessible for weekends tours. In the quiet fall evenings their snowy slopes become red from the sunset.

Paratunka recreation zone - is the place where you can have unforgettable rest with pleasure and benefit for your own health. The water of Nizhne-Paratunskiye thermal springs is analogous to the waters of the Far-Eastern resorts: Kul'dur, Annenskiye waters, Talaya. Its main component is silicic acid which is healthy for people suffering from nervous, endocrine, skin, gynecological and bone diseases. The most valuable for health is curative mud of Lake Utinoe, where all waters of Paratunka hot springs flow into. Famous Sakskoe Lake in the Crimea "had been accumulating" 50-60 sm. Of the curative mud for 6.000 years. The depth of the mud layer in Lake Utinoye is 1 meter (!).
In Paratunka zone you can stay in any V/C you like: V/C Zarnitsa, V/C Krechet, V/C Rassvet, V/C Lesnaya Zaimka, V/C Gelios, V/C Blue Lagoon, V/C Raduga. Most of them offer accommodation, cafes and in all of them (except "Blue Lagoon") - they use water of thermal springs. After rest in one of this base you can visit Shishkobab bar along the highway leading to Elizovo city.
